This blog post will provide announcements and insights on the updates and progress that has been made by the Abelian Foundation, and the technological advancements and upcoming changes to look forward in June 2024.

Progress & Announcements

During the month of May, the Abelian Foundation devs team has been focusing on the 4 categories:

Improving $ABEL Mining Algorithm

For the first time in blockchain history, Abelian network has introduced the Difficulty Smoothing Algorithm (DSA) to enhance its mining difficulty adjustment process, replacing the previous algorithm that operated on a 4,000-block cycle. The DSA improves precision and responsiveness by adjusting mining difficulty every 200 blocks, based on the weighted average time of the last 20 slots (each slot comprising 200 blocks). This method prioritizes recent block times, allowing quicker adaptation to network hashrate changes, thereby stabilizing the average block time at the target of 256 seconds. The new algorithm aims to address issues such as significant fluctuations in block times and the cyclic behavior of miners switching between low and high difficulty epochs. The DSA is set for implementation at block height 284,000, requiring upgrades from node operators and solo miners.

This change is expected to enhance the stability and efficiency of the Abelian network, ensuring smoother transaction processing.

📣 Through a series of updates, All mining pool servers have their Abelian full nodes (namely, abec) upgraded successfully to support the upcoming new difficulty algorithm, Difficulty Smoothing Algorithm (DSA)

📣 For all community members who are running CLI abec and abewallet, please upgrade to v0.13.0 which supports the new difficulty algorithm, Difficulty Smoothing Algorithm (DSA)

📣 This past week, Mining pool servers’ Abelian full nodes (i.e. abec) and underlying wallet (i.e. abewallet) upgraded for a hard fork scheduled at block height 284000.

Introducing MaxPool

maxpool.org

MaxPool is a new mining platform for $ABEL, designed to optimize mining efficiency and maximize rewards. It offers lower payout thresholds, allowing miners to customize their payout limits and receive Abelian tokens more flexibly. The platform features an automatic load balancer that efficiently routes miners to balance the network, ensuring stability and enhanced performance. Additionally, MaxPool automatically connects mining rigs to the nearest servers for consistent and regular payouts, and integrates Abelian Super Nodes to improve network performance and reliability.

Abelian Layer 2

It has been officially announced on Twitter Spaces by Dr.Duncan Wong that Abelian is working hard to roll out an EVM-compatible Abelian Layer 2 that supports $ABEL staking and other utilities. Abelian will become the world’s first PoS over PoW network.
