On the 12th of January, the Abelian community provided invaluable feedback requesting more detailed and frequent updates on the Abelian Foundation’s technology. From this feedback, the foundation has decided to publish weekly notes from the tech team.
These weekly notes from the tech team will be a series on the Abelian Foundation’s Medium blog titled “From the Devs’ Room” and will provide insights on the updates and progress that has been made in the past week, the decisions made regarding technological advancements and upcoming changes, or events to look forward to.
These are the notes from the tech team from the second week of January.
Updates & Upgrades
Baker Pool Upgrade
This week, the Foundation’s official mining pool server Baker upgraded its hardware to support a lot more connections from miners. Baker is located in Asia. For miners in Asia, please connect to Baker for shorter connection latency, hence higher chance to mine successfully. Information on the foundation’s official mining pools can be found here.

Abelian node, abec, has a new version v0.12.5 published on Jan 12. From solo miners to mining pool operators and network supporters who are running Abelian nodes, please upgrade your abec to this version as soon as possible from the official website. Desktop Wallet v0.3.2
Desktop Wallet v0.3.2 was released for Download on Jan 7. The new version has a few bugs fixed offering better stability with less database corruption errors. It is now powered by the latest v0.12.5 of Abelian node, abec, and Abelian wallet engine, abewallet. The new update shows the synchronization progress for each ABEL account on the wallet dashboard, eliminating users’ needs to read through the log to find out the synchronization status of wallets. The new Desktop Wallet can be from the foundation’s official website.
Users do not need to delete the previously installed desktop wallet before downloading the new version. v0.3.2 will automatically override the existing wallet and without the need to synchronize again.

Upcoming Changes
Alicia Pool Transferring to Europe
The Foundation will next upgrade Alicia to support more connections from miners. Alicia will be moved from Asia to Europe for supporting the growing number of European miners. Asia miners can consider switching to Baker for lower latency.
A New Mining Pool System
The Foundation is building a brand new mining pool system. The new system will have a load balancer which automatically routes miners to balance the network so to maximize the support to more miners.
Lower Payment Threshold
Another feature that will come with the new mining pool system mentioned above is that the payout threshold will be lowered to 10 ABELs. The target deployment date will be scheduled to the end of February or earlier.
