On April 28, 2024, Abelian’s founder, Dr. Duncan Wong, announced the introduction of a Layer 2 solution for the Abelian ecosystem during a Binance Live session with Meta Moonshots. Since then, more details about Abelian’s Layer 2, known as QDay, have been shared through various offline events, conferences, and Twitter spaces.

Binance Live with Meta Moonshots

This article consolidates all the information shared so far about Layer 2, making it clear that it is worth anticipating.

The Name of the Layer 2 is QDAY

QDay is anticipated to be a significant global cybersecurity event where quantum computers could potentially crack any security code. Business Insider notes, “It’ll be a massive turning point for how the world thinks about digital privacy, as it could put confidential information at risk of exposure.”

While there is no consensus on when QDay will occur — some predict 2025, others suggest it could be “mid-century” — it promises to break the codes that encrypt data across public networks and secure information in banks, government agencies, and major companies.

The potential impact of QDay was highlighted last February when Tilo Kunz, Quantum Defen5e (QD5) executive vice president, stated, “Machines vastly more powerful than today’s fastest supercomputers would be capable of cracking the codes that protect virtually all modern communication.”

In efforts to promote public awareness about the anticipated impact of quantum computing and celebrate its development, Abelian’s Layer 2 is named QDay to reflect the significance and transformative potential of this impending technology.

QDay is Quantum-Resistant with ZKP Rollups

Like its predecessor, the Layer 1 Abelian chain, QDay will be quantum-resistant. Abelian Layer 1 boasts robust quantum-resistant security through lattice-based cryptography schemes, specifically Crystals Kyber and algorithms inspired by Crystals Dilithium. These cryptographic algorithms are approved by NIST to withstand attacks from quantum computers, which can break traditional encryption methods.

QDay will leverage the advanced security features of Abelian’s Layer 1 by utilizing Zero-Knowledge Proof (ZKP) rollups. These rollups bundle multiple transactions into a single proof verified on the blockchain. This enhances transaction throughput while maintaining high security and privacy standards. Zero-Knowledge Proofs ensure transaction data remains confidential by allowing verification without revealing the underlying data.

ZKP rollups are not only secure but also efficient and cost-effective. They reduce the computational and storage burden on the blockchain, leading to lower transaction fees and faster processing times. This efficiency is crucial for the widespread adoption of decentralized applications and services, making the blockchain more accessible and user-friendly.

Furthermore, QDay’s integration with Abelian’s Layer 1 security protocols ensures a seamless and interoperable ecosystem. Developers and users can trust that their assets and transactions are protected against future quantum threats, while also benefiting from the enhanced performance and scalability of the network. By combining quantum-resistant cryptography with cutting-edge scalability solutions, QDay positions itself as a leader in the next-generation of secure and efficient blockchain technologies.

QDay is EVM-Compatible

An EVM-compatible chain is a blockchain network that adheres to the same standards and protocols as the Ethereum blockchain, enabling it to run Ethereum-based smart contracts and DApps with minimal modifications. This compatibility allows developers to leverage the existing Ethereum ecosystem and tools, facilitating easier deployment and interoperability across multiple chains.

Given the prevalence of Ethereum-based dApps and the growing trend of multi-chain development strategies, EVM compatibility is crucial. It enhances interoperability, encourages developer participation, amplifies network effects, and promotes code reusability across the blockchain ecosystem. This leads to a more dynamic and cooperative environment for creating decentralized applications and services.

Abelian is committed to protecting crypto assets from quantum computer threats such as HNDL and aims to launch a user-friendly quantum-resistant blockchain for widespread adoption. By integrating quantum-resistant technologies and maintaining EVM compatibility, Abelian seeks to enhance blockchain security and ensure smooth integration for developers and users, fostering a secure and interconnected blockchain landscape for the future.

QDay Uses a Proof-of-Stake Consensus Mechanism

QDay will address the previous challenges of the original Abelian network, such as large block sizes and slow transaction speeds. The new Layer 2 will be fast and scalable, operating on a PoS consensus mechanism. The QDay Chain, currently in its testing phase, is performing up to 1,000 transactions per second — a significant improvement from 0.1 transactions per second on the Layer 1 Abelian chain. This also means that community staking will be available for $ABEL holders.

QDay Will Have Its Own Token and Ecosystem

The Abelian chain will continue with its quantum-resistant proof-of-work legacy, producing Digital Gold 2.0, $ABEL. The Layer 2 QDay chain will be part of the Abelian ecosystem, delivering new value through a wide range of smart contract-enabled dApps. For users investing in DeFi or purchasing goods within the Abelian ecosystem, the new token $QDAY will be used to secure the ecosystem through staking and for day-to-day operations like issuing transactions.

QDAY will serve as the channel through which the Abelian chain’s $ABEL provides further utility to the community. Users will be able to stake $ABEL and earn $QDAY tokens for use in the Layer 2 ecosystem. Additionally, transaction costs (gas fees) will become a new business model in the current Abelian roadmap. Stay tuned for the release of $QDay Tokenomics.

The Anticipation Grows

With its robust security features, enhanced scalability, and seamless interoperability, QDay is set to revolutionize the Abelian ecosystem. The team and community are eager to see how these advancements will unlock new opportunities for decentralized applications and services.

The integration of cutting-edge quantum-resistant technologies and the adoption of a PoS consensus mechanism reflect Abelian’s commitment to innovation and security. As we approach the launch, the excitement is palpable.

Stay tuned for more updates as we count down to the release of QDay. The future of blockchain technology is on the horizon, and Abelian is leading the charge. Prepare for a new era of quantum-resistant, scalable, and interoperable blockchain solutions with QDay.
